Reviewers Get Their Hands On The All-New Mk8 VW Golf R – What’s Their Verdict?

Reviewers in Europe are just starting to get their hands on the all-new, 8th generation Volkswagen Golf R, and they have mostly all good things to say about it.

In the first video, Autogefühl does an in-depth review on the hot hatch covering everything on the exterior, interior and the driving experience. The reviewer talks about a few important changes from the previous generation, notably the power increase, more modern interior, improvements in the driving dynamics, as well as the drift mode. He does also touch on a few drawbacks, mostly the infotainment and climate control. Otherwise, he describes the new Golf R as a solid update over its predecessor.

In the second video, the Golf R is put through its paces on the Autobahn. Automann reports a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 4.4 seconds in damp conditions with winter tires on. The range-topping Golf managed to achieve this impressive time thanks to Volkswagen’s all-wheel drive system with torque vectoring.

The car’s 100-200 km/h (62-124 mph) time was just 11.5 seconds, which is also quite impressive for a car of its power. It should be noted that Volkswagen’s claimed top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), and 270 km/h (167 mph) for the Performance pack, was not displayed in the video, with Automann shown at one point pushing the car to 224 km/h (139 mph) before backing off.

Both reviews also showcased the hot hatch’s optional Akrapovič exhaust, which lets out many a pop and crackle, as well as hints of turbocharger sounds.

So, what do you think of the new Golf R? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
