2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate Aims To Woo Families With Its Tech

Alongside the new generation C-Class Sedan, Mercedes-Benz is also working on the more practical station wagon variant, the C-Class Estate, which is the one depicted in this latest set of spy shots.

Caught embracing the sub-freezing temperatures in Sweden, it retains the full camouflage that makes it tricky to spot the changes, yet we do notice a similar greenhouse to the current iteration, as well as the sleeker light units all around.

The cockpit will feature a portrait-style, angled infotainment system in the middle of the center console, as previous scoops have revealed, three air vents on top of it, and a tablet-like digital instrument cluster behind the new steering wheel. The brand’s BMW 3-Series Touring, Audi A4 Avant, and Volvo V60 fighter will also boast the latest tech and comfort features.

In terms of power, the new C-Class is expected with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains, in addition to the usual petrol lineup and perhaps some diesels. If the rumors are true, the range-topping AMG derivatives will likely ditch the twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8, with Mercedes to replace it with a heavily electrified 2.0-liter four-cylinder, making in excess of 500 HP. In fact, the most recent reports talk about the upcoming Mercedes C-Class becoming available only with four-cylinder engines across the range.

With less than two weeks left of the year, a 2020 presentation seems highly unlikely, so it is quite possible that the new generation C-Class will debut in 2021 before it goes on sale in most markets as a 2022 model.
