The BMW iX3 is less than six months old, but the company is already working on a facelift for the electric crossover.
Spotted alongside a handful of other prototypes, the facelifted iX3 has slimmer headlights and a familiar enclosed grille. The crossover is also slated to have new taillights, but they’re heavily camouflaged.
More interestingly, it appears the iX3 could gain an M Sport package. While nothing is official, this particular prototype has traditional front fender vents and what appears to be an M badge covered by tape.
We can also see a sportier front bumper which eschews the trapezoidal intake found on the current iX3. It has been replaced by a rectangular intake that is flanked by vertical openings at the outside edges. The rear bumper also looks a bit more streamlined and features repositioned reflectors.
While spy photographers couldn’t get close enough to snap interior pictures, they noted the facelifted X3 will have an updated cabin. These changes should carryover to electric variant, but specifics are lacking.
Since the model is less than a year old, the electric powertrain should carryover. If that’s the case, we can expect an 80 kWh lithium-ion battery pack and an electric motor that produces 282 hp (210 kW / 286 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque.
This setup enables the crossover to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.8 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). More importantly, the iX3 can travel up to 285 miles (460 km) on a single charge in the WLTP cycle.
While a handful of questions remain, the facelifted iX3 could be introduced late next year or in early 2022.
