Porsche isn’t holding back anymore on the new Taycan Cross Turismo, which has been spotted out in the open again as the brand’s engineers finish up its development. The long-roof model that combines the electrifying performance of the battery-powered sedan with the practically and style of a sports wagon body, is also rumored to form the base for an off-road-ready version in the not so far future. As we get closer to the Taycan Cross Turismo’s debut in early 2021, Porsche has decided to remove even more camouflage from its prototypes, giving us the best look yet at the upcoming electric wagon.
Our photographers spotted a Taycan Cross Turismo prototype in very light camouflage testing alongside a regular Taycan. If you look closely at the pictures, you’ll see that the car is in final production guise, bar the fake DRLs on the front bumper.
The design does not offer surprises, though, as the Taycan Cross Turismo looks exactly as you would expect the wagon variant of the Taycan to look like. This particular prototype appears to be a Turbo S model, seeing as the bumpers look similar to the Taycan Turbo S sedan and the wheels housing massive brake discs and calipers are identical.
The Taycan Cross Turismo will launch as the more practical variant of Porsche’s electric flagship, offering more space for rear passengers (especially head room) and increased cargo capacity.
The lineup is expected to include the same variants as its sedan sibling, starting with the base rear-wheel-drive model, and moving upwards to the 4S, the Turbo and the Turbo S. The latter will top the range thanks to a combined output of 750 HP (761 PS / 560 kW ) and 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) of system torque with the Overboost function enabled.
Porsche initially planned to launch the Taycan Cross Turismo late this year, but has pushed the debut back to early 2021. The main reason is the strong demand for the Taycan sedan in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
